HPST Information
We’re excited for a fantastic swim season! Below is some helpful information to keep everyone informed and ready for the season.
🏊 Time Trials
Before the first swim meet, we may hold time trials for swimmers who are new to competitive swimming or for certain age groups as required by CAL.
This helps coaches determine the best event heats for each swimmer so everyone competes at the appropriate level.
📅 Practice Attendance
Practices are designed to help swimmers improve skills, build endurance, and have fun with teammates.
✔ Practice attendance is encouraged but not mandatory.
✔ No need to notify coaches if your swimmer will miss practice.
✔ Please attend the practice time that best fits your schedule, while also considering your swimmer’s age/ability group.
📣 Team Communication
All official team communication will take place through Band.
📱 Please download the Band app and enable notifications.
These notifications will be used for important updates such as:
- Practice delays or cancellations
- Meet delays or weather updates
- Registration or deadline reminders
👍 We also have a team Facebook page, and an Instagram page which is used for non-urgent communication and community sharing.
Examples include:
- Buying or selling used team suits
- General team updates
- Sharing photos and encouragement
⚠️ Please note:
- Facebook posts require approval, so there may be a delay before they appear.
- Do not use Facebook to communicate practice or meet attendance.
🦈 Coaches-In-Training/Junior Coaches
This season we are excited to have some of our older swimmers serve as CITs!
CITs will help support the 6 & Under and 7-8 practices under the supervision of the Coaches. Their assistance allows more swimmers to safely practice in the water at one time.
CIT Requirements:
- Must be a rising 8th grader or older
- Must attend a CIT training session with the coaches
If your swimmer is interested in helping:
✔ Please sign up using the CIT Sign-Up Genius.
If you missed the early season training, please speak with one of the coaches to arrange another opportunity.
🏁 Swim Meets
New to swim team? No problem!
Be sure to review “Swim Meets 101” for a helpful overview of what to expect on meet day, including swimmer check-in, events, and timing.
🙋Team Service Requirement
Our swim league is 100% family-powered, and we rely on everyone to make meets possible.
🏊 Each family is required to work at least 5 meet halves during the season.
There are many different roles available - please review the "Team Service Requirement" page to learn more about the various positions available.
Thank you for helping make the Hammerheads swim season successful! 🦈

If the air temperature is below 70 degrees or above 100 degrees, or if the water temperature is below 75 degrees or above 87 degrees, the coaches may cancel practice or modify activities. When deciding whether to cancel practices, the coaches will consider the combination of air and water temperatures, as well as the age of the group.
Thunderstorms and Rain
Practice may still be held in the rain. The coaches will consider how heavy it is raining and the temperature when deciding whether to cancel practices
Pool and deck area must be cleared and remain clear for thirty (30) minutes following last visible lightning or thunder.
