Job description The Hampton Park Hammerheads are inviting applications for the position of Head Coach for the 2026 Summer Season. Position Overview: This part-time role commences in late May and concludes following the Champs swim meet in late July. The Head Coach will collaborate with assistant coaches and oversee the comprehensive management of the swim team. Key Responsibilities and Expectations:

  • Design practice sessions and formulate an overall seasonal training plan.
  • Lead all aspects of swim team practices.
  • Supervise and guide the coaching staff.
  • Practice times incorporate setup and cleanup periods for lanes and equipment.
  • Championship meet date to be determined.
  • Maintain effective communication with the parent representative and swim parents, addressing incidents as needed.
  • Provide instruction on proper stroke techniques and offer constructive feedback to swimmers of all skill levels during practices and meets.
  • Coordinate the scheduling and training of coaching staff, including pre-season meetings to establish roles and responsibilities.
  • Participate in the league meetings as needed.
  • Assess, assign, and organize lineups for individual and relay events prior to and during swim meets; prepare meet entries accordingly.
  • Manage all aspects of meet preparation, set-up, clean-up, and break-down for home and away events.
  • Lead warm-ups, motivate athletes with pre-meet cheers, address scratches, organize relays, ensure swimmers report to clerk of course, encourage participants, organize ribbons at meet conclusion, and collect disqualification cards.
  • Foster team spirit through motivational strategies.
  • Participate in team social activities and leadership meetings.
  • Attend the end-of-season Awards Banquet and coordinate award preparation with the board.
  • Ensure compliance with league policies and USA Swimming rules at all times.
  • Promote a safe and positive environment for all program participants.
  • Undertake additional duties as assigned by the swim team board.
Schedule details to be confirmed; typical schedule includes:
  • May 18 – May 29: Monday–Thursday, 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm
  • June 1 – July 20: Monday–Friday, 8:00 am – 11:00 am and 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm (no Friday afternoon practices)
  • Championships are 2 days in July.
